Meet Sarah who completed our Diversion Program in Pinellas County.
Prior to being referred to Red Tent Women’s Initiative “Sarah” suffered from untreated severe mental illness, years of chronic homelessness and substance abuse. She had been incarcerated in other counties multiple times prior to coming to Safe Harbor in Pinellas County where she was referred to the Red Tent Women’s Initiative’s Project Redirect. Her journey includes completing Project Redirect, where through the Trauma Informed Program, she learned, self-regulation, applying emotional control techniques, and setting boundaries including distancing herself from destructive relationships especially with family members that are caught in the cycle of addiction.
During her time in Project Redirect, Sarah talked about how she got through the one night, one day, one week of challenges using the skills she was learning in Project Redirect. Sarah started showing up in class, taking time for personal grooming and even wearing her beautiful smile and displaying a new confidence.
One facilitator noted that it was like seeing a flower bloom! Due to her continued progress, she completed 3 cohorts of the 9-week course. Sarah continues to remain clean and sober now for over 12 months, participating on Red Tent's new mentoring program and counseling which is funded by the Catholic Diocese. She often shares her mantra learned in her RTWI mentoring sessions- “you are not alone”.
Every day is a struggle for Sarah, yet she continues to blossom, using the techniques and the foundation provided by her experience with the Red Tent Women’s Initiative.
Your investment in The Red Tent Women’s Initiative Trauma Informed Care Program is an investment in giving Sarah the Courage to face every day!
